child care center (6 wks-5 yrs) Greyston Child Care Center grew out of our first affordable housing tenants’ need to have access to quality childcare in order to pursue and retain employment. The Center has since expanded services and its business space, serving up to 80 low-income children aged six weeks to five years. In 2003, the Center gained accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, a rare accomplishment for an inner-city center. The Center operates out of one of Greyston’s affordable rental housing buildings at 68 Warburton Avenue in Yonkers and is open 7:30 am to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday.Speech therapists, a psychological therapist, and a nurse practitioner help the Center identify and treat developmental delays, socialization difficulties, and behavior issues before they hinder a child’s ability to learn and succeed. Delayed social and learning skills or undiagnosed physical problems often earmark children of extreme poverty for failure before they even enter school. The Center also offers parenting classes, early intervention services, phonics, and developmentally appropriate computer literacy learning. Greyston Child Care Center staff utilize the Addison-Wesley Active Learning curriculum, designed to facilitate the cognitive, physical, emotional and social development of children.
